Weston Pope

Name?  Weston Pope

Age?  Nineteen

Class?  17-24 expert

Sponsors?  Mr. and Mrs. Pope, Dans Competition, and Dick Weid Apparel.

Hometown?  Clarksville, Indiana- right outside of Louisville.

What got you into racing?  My Pops took me out to Tom Sawyer one day, and I wrecked probably 200 times. I was hooked from there.

How long have you been racing?  Eleven years now.

Were you involved in other sports before racing?  Yeah! Just about all of them.  I seriously used to be a little cowboy. I competed in rodeos until I was about 10.  I played the classic three sports all through childhood. In high school, it was all Basketball, running, and BMX.

What would you be doing if you were not racing BMX?  Probably trying to hoop at some junior college somewhere.

What do you do outside of BMX? School, work etc.?  School full-time at Lindsey Wilson College.  The school is amazing.  I am on a cycling scholarship here.  They help out with tuition and I get to pedal bikes with their name on my jersey.  More BMXers should definitely look into coming here. It is awesome for training and a really good school. Contact me if you want details.

What has racing brought you?  Oh man! I seriously do not know where to begin.  I have this video on my MySpace page and it talks about why people ride, check that out. I have met soooo many people who  and made really good friends.  BMX has also taught me what hardwork is. BMX is even indirectly paying for my college now.

Favorite Food?  My Mom's Shrimp Pasta is definitely on top of the list.

Favorite hobby outside of racing?  Traveling, and just chilling with the family.

Favorite movie?  Ferris Bueller's Day Off. So good.

Favorite TV show?  I don’t watch T.V. all that much, but I caught that Exposed show on MTV the other day and it was kind of funny seeing people make fools of themselves.

Where is your favorite place to ride (Track, Trails, Ramps, Street)?  Flowy trails any day, mainly because I hardly get the chance to ride them.

What are your favorite tracks?  South Park, and my home track Tom Sawyer.

What is your favorite thing about BMX?  Traveling and the friends I have made.

What do you like least about BMX?  That most of us end up forgetting why we still ride bikes.

What is your favorite racing memory?  Going as hard as I could to not get beat by a girl at my local track the first three years I raced.  I seriously made an oath to myself that if I got beat by her I would quit. Haha..She turned out to be a super hot chick, but I burnt that bridge by being so competitive with her.

What was your biggest win?  My first Grands. I was 8 Rookie. It was the first step of everything.

What do you think will be your biggest challenge in the upcoming season?Balancing racing, school, family, and friends.

What does your training (lifting/sprints/track time) schedule usually look like on a week to week basis?  Now that I am back in school, I don’t get to ride the track all that much. So it is a combination of lifting, sprinting, road and mountain bike riding. But I for sure ride some kind of bike everyday.

What kept you from making the move to Super-X or Elite this season?  There is a combination of things.  I broke my collarbone right before the Grands, and I didn't know how much time I would spend studying first semester.  So I chose to stay at least another year.

Do you think you will make that jump? When?  For sure! Possibly this year, but not 100% sure.

Anything else you would like people to know about you?  I am pretty much obsessed with God!

Plans for this years worlds?  This is the first I have thought about it! So none as of now.

Anybody you would like to thank?  First and most of all Jesus Christ, that guy died for you and me! My parents for their selflessness. They have made it all possible. Oh man, the list could go on forever! Rick Moliterno, Terri Sonner, Darren Barnes, Andy Medlin, and my Coach at School Jenni Huff.
